eoples Credit Union was incorporated May 21, 1932 under the name of Cudahy Brothers Credit Union. It was originally formed to serve the employees of Cudahy Brothers Packing Company located in Cudahy, Wisconsin.

When Cudahy Brothers Packing Company changed its name to Patrick Cudahy in September of 1959, the credit union also changed its name. It remained Patrick Cudahy Employees Credit Union until April of 1979 when it became Peoples Credit Union. This final name change reflected the broader range of members served by the credit union.

In January of 1987, Peoples Credit Union went "public," since it served so many different companies' employees in the Milwaukee county area. In part, the credit union grew by merging other credit unions into Peoples Credit Union. These included Milwaukee Division Credit Union which served Associated Spring-Barnes Group Company, Immaculate Conception Credit Union which served the Parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church, GS Credit Union which served the associates of Gimble-Schuster stores, and Boston Store Credit Union which served the associates of the Boston Stores throughout the Milwaukee area.

In 2005, Peoples Credit Union expanded its field of membership to include anyone that works for a Select Employee Group or lives or works in Milwaukee, Racine, or Waukesha counties.
